We all know how important a tip it is to prepare a list before heading out to do the groceries. But did you know that there are other methods to shop smarter? Here are 10 of them.

1. Look in the fridge

Always check what’s inside the fridge to know what you have and what you don’t. That way, you won’t double up on some products.

2. Scan your rewards card and don’t hesitate to use it

What good is racking up points on your rewards card if you won’t use them? Scan your card and when the points are sufficient enough, use them to keep costs down.

3. Go green

It may be tough but try to limit eating meat to once or twice a week. It’s healthy and cost-friendly eating.

4. Shop online

Doing your shopping online saves you the cost of commute. But be sure to see first how much you’re paying for deliveries.

5. Never shop on a set day

Shop only when you need to. Shopping on a set day of the week might cost you more as you may double up on some things and may end up wasting them.

6. Eat at mum’s

It’s a funny tip but eating mum’s home cooked meal every once in a while saves you some money.

7. Go alone

Shopping without the kids can save you money, as you don’t have to buy things they want as opposed to the ones they need.

8. Don’t waste it

For example, you’re having a meal, which uses sour cream and you’re only using half a tub. Make another with identical ingredients a day or two after so there’s no waste.

9. What brand is that?

Don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone and try cheaper brands. You may find that you like them better than your usual ones.

10. Shop around

Take a look at other stores apart from your nearby one. It might cost a little less there than at your usual joint.
