The Freecycle Network is a not for profit movement that organises the movement of stuff from one person or household to another. People all around the world who are interested in both giving away and receiving stuff within their local area can sign up to the Freecyle network for free.

The Freecycle Network was founded in the United States in 2003 by Deron Beal who initially invited 30-40 of his friends to join. The primary mission of this giving movement is to reduce waste, make better use of the earth’s limited resources and reduce landfill. As people continue to use online more to find ways to save money, the Freecycle site has grown rapidly in size and popularity. There are now over 7 million members worldwide who form part of over 5,000 local Freecycle groups.

Using Freecycle to Save Money

Members of Freecycle can continually browse their local group for new postings on items that are available for collection. Household items such as clothing, furniture, electronics and white goods are the most frequently listed products on the site. However from time to time there are other item postings such as sporting goods, gym equipment and musical instruments.

You could therefore potentially save a lot of money by receiving items such as these. Anything in your own household too that is no longer needed you can also offer to make a contribution back to the network.

How to Use the Freecycle site

Signing up to the Freecylce Network is very easy. To sign up simply find your nearest community by entering your location into the search box on the homepage. Or you can search via the “Browse Groups” option. You will hopefully discover a local group in your city that is either within your suburb or close by.

Should you have any questions or issues upon joining you are encouraged to contact the local moderator of the local group that you have joined. For more information visit the FreeCycle site today. For more money saving tips be sure to visit the Daily Savers Club Money Saving section.
